Dearest Mother and Daddy,

I have just gotten your letter mailed March 29. How are your eyes now mother? I want both of you to take care of yourself.

If you don't think I am working now you are fooled. We have started to school already in a big way. Today we had Calisthenics, Clerical Habits, Army Regulations, Qualification Cards, Organization of the Army, 1 hour of Drill, Service Records, Military Correspondence, Typewriting, and another hour of Drill, and 2 hours of Supervised Study tonight. It is 9:30 now, and I have to be in bed pretty soon and I must get a bath. If you don't think that is a day you are fooled. On top of all of this, they have student officers here for a week at a time. I am Platoon Captain, and have two sections leaders, four sergeants, eight squad leaders and one hundred leaders under me. I am responsible for them at all times, take them to class, chow, drill them, make all announcements to them, and just anything that comes up. There is one man over me, and he is the Company Commander. I think I will be that next week. The Captain (our commanding office) seems to like me. I talk to him just like one of the soldiers. One of the boys heard him tell a Lieutenant as I was taking the men off that I really had a good voice for counting cadence and seemed to know what I was doing. It is a lot of extra work, but it gives you a reference. If I can just pass this work I will be alright I think.

I like this place very much even though it is hard work. I feel fine, and get good food.

I went to church yesterday morning, to league last night, and to church last night too. I met a very pretty little girl and escorted her home (ha ha). She goes to college here and is very nice, but I won't have time to go back I am afraid.

Most of our instructors are Captains or Majors. I thought they would be non-commissioned officers, but they are a long way from it. They really know their stuff, and they expect a lot out of you.

I have got to go around and get the lights turned out now and see that all of the men are in. Write soon, but don't be surprised if I don't answer it right away.

Lots of love,
George

P.S. Daddy I bet you will be mad about the way I wrote this, but I had to do it in about 5 minutes. I will try to do better next time.

P.S. I got paid, and am going to send some money home pretty soon.
